The following workshops were arranged by SLSA during the past few months:

 

Best Practice Working with Deaf People -

Carla Anderson, Heather Lawson and Meredith Bartlett

Facilitated by Carla Anderson - Carla is currently the manager of the Able Deafblind Services with Able Australia (formerly called The Deafblind Association). She has substantial experience in the field of Deafblindness as an advocate, counselor, manager and trainer and in community development. She has a Masters degree in counseling from the USA. She is a qualified relay interpreter.

Heather Lawson - Heather has Usher's Syndrome type 1. She was one of the founders of the Victorian Usher's Syndrome and Deafblind Club that organise social activities for the Deafblind community. She received a centenary medal from the government in 2003 for her contributions to the Deafblind community.

Meredith Bartlett - An experienced NAATI Accredited Interpreter who has been teaching the Diploma of Interpreting (Auslan) at RMIT for 10 years and has been involved in conducting several courses for Deaf Relay Interpreters. Meredith also has extensive experience interpreting for deaf people with various levels of vision impairment.

Culture in 3D - Diversity, Difference & Discrimination

Facilitated by Louise Munro (Psychologist - School of Psychology and Counselling, Queensland University of Technology and also in private practice) and Kay Philp (Psychologist, Counsellor - QUT and also in private practice).

D.E.C.I.D.E - A Model for Ethical Decision Making

Facilitated by Lynne Wiesmann - Lynne was the founder of Signs of Development, an internationally-known professional development organisation specialising in providing technical assistance, consultation, mentoring, and training to Sign Language Interpreters with an emphasis on CD-rom workshops.

Language and Interpreting Self Assessment

Facilitated by Lynne Wiesmann - Signs of Development has developed and maintained the nation's only distance-mentoring program for interpreters providing certification preparation groups and individual mentoring utilizing distance technologies. Lynne is a graduate of the Master Mentor program and taught in the Master Mentor program out of Northeastern University.

Minimal Language Skills

Facilitated by Carol-lee Aquiline (currently living in the USA - former Secretary for the World Federation of the Deaf and internationally respected trainer and presenter).

Deaf Relay Interpreting - an Introduction - Stephanie Linder, Meredith Bartlett.

Facilitated by Stephanie Linder (Auslan instructor and well known and respected interpreter trainer); Meredith Bartlett (NAATI accredited interpreter, researcher and well respected interpreter trainer) - both from Victoria.
